Getting to Mevagissey by car

From ‘up country’, take the M5 or the A303 (my preference – a much more scenic route, with better places to rest, eat and drink along the way) to Exeter, then the A30 until the St Austell exit. From here, take the A391 (signposted for St Austell) through Bugle and Stenalees. Head straight over the roundabout, taking the B3274 to St Austell. Drive past Wheal Martyn China Clay Museum and follow the road into St Austell. Past the sign for the bowling alley, you’ll go round a very sharp bend to the right, then take the first left. Go right at the roundabout past the cinema. Just down the hill is a busy double roundabout. Make sure you are in the middle lane, take the first exit, then go into righthand lane and take the second exit (effectively just going straight ahead, taking the road between McDonalds and the petrol station, signposted to Mevagissey). Follow Pentewan Road (B3273) all the way to Mevagissey.
